I know that this is, like, a novel concept for some people, but criticizing conservative homophobes by implying that they’re secretly gay is, in fact, homophobic

How?

The idea that all homophobes are secretly gay places the blame of homophobia on the very people it’s affecting. Hatred against gay people doesn’t come from gays hating their identity and then as an act of denial to reinstate their desired heterosexuality they proceed to act homophobic. It’s come from straight people who think we’re lesser then.

By assuming that conservative homophobes are secretly gay we are taking their hatred and and disgusting comments about homosexuality and justifying it because “he’s probably secretly gay” and placing the blame on the lgbt community. It also creates the narrative that homophobia exists within society because gay people wished they were straight. But that’s just my view on it

Also, even in instances of homophobic people who are secretly gay, like….internalized homophobia literally comes from being steeped in EXTERNAL homophobia. Like, no gay guy realizes they’re attracted to other guys and goes “welp, guess I gotta hate myself now just because!” Even if a gay person goes on to perpetuate homophobia against someone else because of their own internalized homophobia…..it still came from outside them originally.

Nobody’s born hating themselves or people like them. They’re taught to hate themselves and people like them by people who hate everyone who isn’t exactly like themselves.
