Okay but
what if Solas is just always telling his forces to avoid engaging lavellan
because he actually does want to give her a shot at whatever it is she’s got up her sleeve, so long as it’s not directly interfering with his own plans, and he has no desire to see her harmed, so basically standing orders are to keep a distance and retreat if necessary
but lavellan’s got that whole ‘herald/inquisitor/badass’ reputation going on, so the general agreement among Fen’Harel’s agents is that they’re supposed to keep a distance because otherwise she will kill them so dead
and they’re just like ‘wow the Dread Wolf is really scared of this chick’
‘she must be super dangerous’
‘one time I swear I saw him booking it off a battlefield when she turned up’
‘I wasn’t going to say anything but I’m pretty sure she made him cry once’
‘what, really?’
‘yeah I guess she must have hit him super hard in the junk or something’
‘shit this lady’s terrifying’
‘she’s down an arm and she’s still making GODS cry’
and it just builds up and builds up until the point where agents are petrified whenever they get assigned to watch her or anything because, shit, no one wants to get caught by this woman
and when anyone does get caught Lavellan’s always kind of taken aback because as soon as they catch sight of her they spill their guts fast and hard
like they’re more scared of her than of the Dread Wolf
the Dread Wolf’s not so bad
the lady who makes the Dread Wolf run away?
terrifying
meanwhile, Solas is trying to figure out what the hell Lavellan’s doing to turn his people into gibbering balls of fear every time her name is mentioned
(he has failed to notice that his attempts to ‘act natural’ any time she’s brought up have resulted in a lot of awkward pauses and terrifying stone-faced silences and thousand-yard stares that haven’t really dissuaded anyone’s impression of her as the scariest person in Thedas)
