Come to think of it, we never do find out how or why Frederic of Serault managed to avoid being attacked by any of the bandits, Venatori or hostile wildlife in the Western Approach. When the question was asked, I thought we were going to get some sort of sinister answer, but since that didn’t happen, I guess we are supposed to conclude that he remained unmolested by dint of his eccentric professor aura.

Those were my original tags. But someone else has already brought it up, and even if the Venatori avoided killing Frederic, it doesn’t explain how he survived the bandits, wildlife and darkspawn also roaming the Western Approach. 

Unless a plucky group of Venatori were tasked with following him around, keeping him out of danger.

“Aw shit, what is he doing near those Varghests?? Is he… sketching them?? wtf is with this guy and his death wish? *sigh*”

“Man, idk, but those darkspawn just spotted him.”

“Shit, guess we need to go kill them before they gobble him up.”

And here you can imagine Frederic sketching out Varghest mating habits while blissfully unaware of the Venatori fighting darkspawn in the background.
