You can cure the dog at Ostagar. Of the taint. Which has no cure and is unstoppable death save for becoming a Grey Warden. With a flower.

I’ve always thought that Dog is a Grey Warden himself. the Andraste’s Grace likely had a similar effect to the lyrium Wardens mix with blood at the Joining… but he should still have died.

except the dog finds the lone Warden survivors, one in particular, and says you, you’re my pack now and he’s always the first to go battle-ready when darkspawn are around (seriously, I’ve watched) and no matter how many hurlocks you just killed he’s happy and willing to lick the blood off after tearing apart three genlocks himself

That is a pretty solid theory given that in the calling I’m 99% sure there’s a hound who’s been joined.

There was! In The Calling, Hafter was confirmed to be a Grey Warden
