Do you have any headcanons about cassarric?

Okay, yes? Yes??

It wasn’t something dramatic that set the foundation. Their relationship begins slowly, so subtle that neither one are aware they’re in the middle of it until they realize that they can’t turn away. Leaving one another isn’t an option.

  • He sees it in the way that the light brightens the subtle highlights in her hair. When they stop to rest for a moment, he finds himself glancing at the strands that the sun illuminates, and when they make eye contact he can only wink and glance away before he says what he’s actually thinking.
  • She feels it in the way that as she’s bringing her shield down onto her foe, she knows that he’s covering her in that brief moment where she is vulnerable to attack. She doesn’t have to turn to know he’s got his crossbow aimed and ready.
  • He can smell it in the light scent of perfume she wears at Skyhold, a simple luxury, but one that she takes when she thinks no one can notice. As he carefully presents her the latest chapter of his romance novels, he inhales deeply, and he can smell it for hours later.
  • She can taste it in the foul pint of something that seems like a liquid but feels like lead in her gut. But the Seekers have been disbanded, and the only person that seems to understand just what that means to her is the dwarf sitting there pouring another one for her.
  • He can hear it as he seeks her out for some off reason, and when she thinks that no one is near, she sings under her breath, a lullaby from a past that she does not revisit easily. When she turns sharply and sees him, he is kind enough to not press the issue of her lovely singing voice.
  • She knows it, and it is a horrible sort of feeling. She withdraws immediately because out of all things that could happen to her -she loves Varric? But he won’t let her back away, and instead he takes her by the hand and for once he doesn’t make a lecherous joke. Instead, he takes her dancing and sweeps her off of her feet. For a Lowtown dwarf, he’s quite adept at the art of dance.
