I think it’s safe to say that Cullen is claustrophobic. 

Apparently he didn’t like spending time below deck to and from Kirkwall, found it difficult to breathe even.

Maybe that’s why he doesn’t mind the roof being broken… because it’s sort of a form of reassurance/proof that he’s not caged nor confined just as he was ten years before in Kinloch Hold.

Yeah, when I was on the Storm Coast with Blackwall and Varric, he had mentioned coming to Haven from Kirkwall and said “Between Cassandra’s pleasant company and Cullen’s feelings on sea travel, it was great.” And I thought, “Oh, teehee, Cullen gets seasick!” Then I read the World of Thedas and went, “Oh…he wasn’t seasick. He was traumatized…”  :<
